*Na 'Ohana 'O Ke KaiKe Aloha Outrigger at Hoboken CoveThe water and ocean is a central tenet of Pacific Island culture. Without it, there is no survival or connection to other islands. Unlike modern views of the water in our area as a place to be avoided or feared (we can't count how many times people have told us their perceptions of the Hudson River as a dirty cesspool), Pacific Islanders, on the other hand, see it as a means of connection with each other and with nature. We aim to educate those who attend that the water is an essential part of our ecosystem as well as our cultural heritage through the perspective of the Pacific Island lens. The event will start at Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse with a shoreline cleanup to teach those we need to "Malama Honua" or Take Care of the Earth. Following that event will be a variety of family-oriented activities and crafts to educate about the importance of oceans in our world and the need to make sure we do our part to maintain them. We will also offer trips in our outrigger canoes to allow attendees 13 and older to build a stronger connection to the Hudson River and our local waterways. We aim to follow developed curriculum from the Pacific Voyaging Society's Kai E'e program for children K-8 to raise awareness of climate change and how it affects all of us and what they can do now and in their upcoming years to counter these differences.8am - 4pmHoboken Cove Community Boathouse at Maxwell Place Park, Frank Sinatra Dr, Hoboken, NJ 07030Registration not required.

Cathedral of Stone & Water: A Ritual for Healing & Connection with the Hudson RiverLand of the LivingJoin local artists Larissa Belcic and Benedicto Figueroa at sunset at Jersey City's Morris Canal Park for a special evening of gathering and ritual. This unique event will bring us together to connect with our land and our water, and with ourselves and one another, and create pathways that allow us to feel how integrated we already are with this land we call home. Separation and disconnection from nature is a core wound of our time, and we often look to ""pristine"" landscapes to feel nature's beauty. But our urban landscapes hold just as much meaning, and just as much potential for sacred relationship between ourselves and nature.

Together, we will collect sacred objects from the land and waters, co-construct an altar, and come together in a ceremony that guides us to finding and honoring the bond with our environment that already exists within us. We live surrounded by waters we are told not to touch, waters that hold a lineage of disregard and abuse, but the waters have been giving life to people for thousands of years, and they still are. Without the river, we would not have the city.

Participants should bring water and snacks.
7:30pm - 9:30pmMorris Canal Park, Jersey City, NJ 07302Registration not required.

Walking the Harlem River: Bridges, Parks and LandmarksNYC H2OJoin NYC H2O for "Walking the Harlem River: Bridges, Parks and Landmarks." This guided walk will explore the waterfront of the Harlem River, visiting several recently restored parks and landmarks along the Bronx coastline of the river, including the High Bridge, Highbridge Park, Bridge Park, and Roberto Clemente State Park. Along the way, we will discuss the history of this shoreline, which was once home to grand hotels, steamship excursions, and amusement parks. We will also consider new plans to create public access along the shoreline, including an extension of Bridge Park, and the proposed Harlem River Greenway.

This walk will be led by Nathan Kensinger, a New York based journalist, photographer, filmmaker and curator, whose work explores hidden urban landscapes and forgotten waterways. The meeting point is in the middle of the High Bridge. The walk is one way, starting at the High Bridge and ending at Roberto Clemente State Park. The walk will take place on sidewalks and in public parks, and includes one large staircase.

Walking the Harlem River is generously supported by a grant from the New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program and the Hudson River Foundation.

City of Water Day: Water Chestnut Removal at Van Cortlandt ParkVan Cortlandt Park AllianceThis special event will focus on removing invasive water chestnuts from the pond, a crucial effort in maintaining the health of our local water systems. By participating, you will directly contribute to the restoration of the park's ecosystem and support initiatives like the daylighting of Tibbetts Brook.

🛠 Activities Include:
*Removing invasive water chestnuts from the lake.
*Learning about the importance of water health and local conservation efforts.

🌿 Why It's Important: Water chestnuts are an invasive species that clog waterways, outcompete native plants, and disrupt aquatic ecosystems. This initiative aims to restore natural water flow, reduce flooding, and improve water quality in the Bronx.

🎒 What to Bring:
*Plenty of water and a snack.
*A hat and sunscreen.

🔧 We Provide:
*Waders and gloves.
*Necessary equipment.
*Guidance and support.

🤝 Get Involved: No previous experience is required. Just bring your enthusiasm for environmental conservation and be ready to make a difference!

Climate Change and Architecture Harbor TourWaterfront Alliance and Classic Harbor LineCity of Water Day's Climate Change and Architecture Tour is a 90-minute version of Classic Harbor Lines's popular excursion where you'll learn how climate change is affecting our city and people, and the actions NYC is taking to mitigate pending threats and reduce its carbon footprint. Focusing on Lower Manhattan, these tours address the pressing need for sustainable design and greater resilience towards climate change, delving into how New York City is reducing fossil fuel consumption, strengthening its natural habitats, and reimagining its transportation infrastructure. The tour will also explore the importance of the environmental justice movement in New York City. Celebration of a Healthier Pond in Morningside Park
Friends of Morningside ParkCity of Water Day in Morningside Park will celebrate the first anniversary of a new private/public partnership with Columbia University, NYC Parks, and the Friends of Morningside Park to clear up recurring Hazardous Algal Blooms (HABs) in the Morningside Pond through natural additives to the water and the reconstruction of pumps feeding a much loved ornamental waterfall that has not worked for over six years.

We will meet at the pond, which was built in the late 1980s in the scarred landscape where Columbia University had begun construction of a gymnasium in 1968. The pond is located in the park between West 113th and West 114th Streets with entrances from Manhattan Avenue at 113th Street and Morningside Avenue at 114th Street.

The celebration will include educational presentations about HABs and the flight of a scientific drone that will map natural resources in the park.

Charting a Fossil-Fuel Free Future: WindShipped on City of Water Day
Waterfront Alliance & Climate Film FestivalJoin us for a timely screening of the inspiring short film WindShipped (dir. Jon Bowermaster, 2022, 39 min.), co-presented by the Waterfront Alliance and the Climate Film Festival at the South Street Seaport Museum. Bringing together past, present, and future on the Hudson River, WindShipped reveals the intersections between climate solutions, fossil-free cargo, and community action on New York's waterways. A thought-provoking panel discussion with the filmmakers and protagonists will follow the screening.

About the Film: What started as one man's quixotic dream has turned into reality. For the past five years the 65-foot Schooner Apollonia has been delivering goods up and down the Hudson River by sail—sans fossil fuels—a throwback to a time when there were 1,200 such boats on the river each day. It turns out buyers prefer the non-polluting, anti-Amazon way of making deliveries.

Advanced registration is suggested for this free event, but walk-ups will be accommodated as possible and drop-ins are welcome.
